    Eastern Municipality: A recommendation to build strategies between government agencies and other sectors to reach a "green economy"

    The Director-General of Services at the Municipal Affairs Agency in the Eastern Region Municipality, Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al-Saad, said that the Municipality aims to raise the health and environmental level in the Eastern Province by increasing awareness among all members of society and implementing environmental programs and projects that achieve this goal
    Al-Saad explained during a remote meeting entitled "Environmental Challenges and Solutions" organized by the Asharqia Chamber represented by the Environment Committee on Monday, October 26, 2020, and managed by the Chairman of the Committee Talal bin Sultan Al-Rasheed, that the Secretariat has made many efforts in this regard, including awareness, training, and health education programs for all segments of society.
    Al-Saad announced a number of recommendations that the Secretariat adopts to reach a healthy and sustainable environment, namely: Building strategies between government agencies and other relevant sectors in reducing environmental pollutants to reach sustainable development “green economy”, and mobilizing efforts for all segments of society to reach health and environmental education. Aali targets different sectors and society, activating the role of science, schools and mosques in educating community members, in addition to developing a strategy for an early warning system regarding sensitive environmental issues and communicating by linking them with other government agencies, and also increasing the per capita share of the green area in cities and encouraging Different sectors and community members in protecting the environment, maintaining the environmental balance and limiting air pollution.
    Al-Saad talked about some environmental problems facing the eastern region, many of which the Municipality worked to address, and sought to address many of them, which are represented by the air pollution that forms
    From dust rising from quarries and crushers, galvanizing plants, air rising from factories loaded with dust and fumes, and smoke from burning solid waste.
    Regarding the forms of water pollution, Al-Saad said that this consists of wastewater leaking from the dilapidated sewage networks or pits, and those that are directly dumped into waterways without treatment or seeping through the soil into the groundwater and the organic, inorganic and vital substances it contains, as well as the water produced from Industrial process wastes and their contents of organic and inorganic pollutants, and wastewater resulting from agricultural activities, which often contain pesticides, fungi, fertilizers, and animal excreta, in addition to pollutants resulting from human activities and their solid or liquid materials that are dumped into waterways or seeped through Soil to groundwater, referring to soil pollution, which results from waste and factory waste, and from the use of chemicals, such as pesticides and industrial fertilizers in agriculture, as well as from waste residues of homes, buildings, and other facilities.
    Regarding the procedures used to treat the rubble, Al-Saad drew a number of procedures, namely: preparing studies and research to ensure the cleansing of the area from rubble waste, with the aim of reducing the costs of transporting it by the Eastern Region Municipality, studying and implementing the rehabilitation program for waste and debris removal contractors to reduce abuses, designing, implementing and developing a management program Rubble remnants, studying the sites of projects that produce rubble waste and registering them for monitoring. He said that the results achieved through this project are to reduce the phenomenon of random throwing of rubble in the cities of Dammam metropolitan area and to implement a program for the rehabilitation of contractors to remove rubble waste to reduce abuses, and to carry out field monitoring services in a manner complete​​​​.
